Nutrition Hacks for Midlife Babes

I’m obsessed with nutrition hacks! They’re easy to incorporate and they make such a difference to how you feel throughout the day. Instead of irrational, moody and fatigue, think energized, calm and less reactive. Who doesn’t want that?!? Here are my top 4 hacks!

Hack 1 - Plan

When you know you’re going to consume a carb heavy meal, think work event, birthday party or romantic dinner, take a shot (1 tbs) of vinegar 30 minutes before your meal. White or apple cider vinegar it doesn’t matter. Can’t tolerate a shot, place vinegar in a small glass of water (warm or cold), or add to a homemade dressing (try this one) and toss with spinach or whatever greens you have in the fridge. Vinegar has been scientifically proven to significantly reduce blood sugar levels of a meal, reducing a sugar spike.

Hack 2 - How You Eat Your Food is Key

Eat a salad or your veggies first before everything else on your plate. Leafy greens, veggies such as broccoli, beets & carrots are high in fiber and fiber digests slowly in the body. Eating your salad and/or veggies first, slows down the digestion of starches (think potatoes, bread, pasta), in the body and trickles into the bloodstream, flattening any glucose spike.

Hack 3 - You Can Still Eat Dessert

I love desserts. Small yet awfully effective hack to flatten the sugar spike of your chosen dessert, simply add a healthy fat such as a dollop of Non-fat Greek Yoghurt. Why on earth? A healthy fat will shorten the glucose spike of carbs and sugar. A pure magic trick.

Hack 4 - Make the Cocktail Minus the Alcohol

Unpopular opinion, but drinking less alcohol is actually good for you. Have you ever considered that maybe the desire for an alcoholic beverage on a Monday night, is wrapped up entirely in the process? Keep being creative with all the fabulous cocktail ingredients, just eliminate the alcohol. Try this Monday through Thursday and notice how your body responds. Does the quality of your sleep improve? Do you wake up with a clear mind, instead of a foggy brain? Comment below when you try. I want to hear about your results.

With health and love,
