What’s Up With My Midlife Brain?
Do you ever experience a brain fart during a conversation, where the word you’re looking to articulate simply does not appear?
Or do you ever end up somewhere in the house and stop and think what was I meant to be doing here?!?
Know, this is all quite normal during perimenopause (PM) and you’re not alone. Data obtained from a study published in the journal of Menopause found that up to 60% of women going through PM reported experiencing cognitive symptoms. Similarly, mood changes such as mood swings, irritability and anxiety are also common. Research estimates 20-40% of women in perimenopause experience symptoms of depression and anxiety.
So what can we do to help manage brain health issues during Midlife?Support memory and cognitive function. Here are 6 helpful tips, I share with clients:
read a 2-3 pages of a book every night
incorporate more veggies, fruits and healthy protein on your plate, reduce the amount of refine sugar and processed foods
cut back on alcoholic beverages (if you drink most nights, think about an alcoholic free Monday thru Thursday week)
exercise daily
introduce a simple meditation and breath technique to your nightly bed time routine
priotise your sleep
What have I missed? Do you need your own personalized road map on cognitive support? If yes, let’s chat and do something about it. Maximizing your cognitive capability is EVERYTHING.
With love for your brain health,
